Clearwater Tours

Dampier is a major industrial port in the Pilbara region in the northwest of Western Australia. It is located near the city of Karratha and Port Walcott. Dampier Port is part of the Dampier Archipelago and is primarily a port for the export of iron ore from Rio Tinto mines, LNG and salt.

Located just 20 kilometres west of Karratha, the pretty port town of Dampier is named after the English buccaneer William Dampier, who visited in 1688.

Dampier is the departure point for day cruises to the spectacular Dampier Archipelago. Don’t miss the memorial to ‘Red Dog’ on the way into town, and follow the Red Dog Trail to discover more about the North West’s favourite canine and his remarkable story. Take a day to explore Murujuga National Park, home to fascinating rock art.

Built by Hamersley Iron in 1965, Dampier is the largest tonnage shipping port in Australia and houses the massive export facilities of Hamersley Iron, Dampier Salt and the North West Gas Shelf Project.
